The Bally Benching Process is a slope stabilization technique used for slope protection, especially in hilly terrains and construction sites where landslides or erosion could occur. This method involves creating stepped or benched terraces along the slope to reduce erosion, improve stability, and provide a base for further protective measures like vegetation or retaining structures.
Process of Bally Benching for Slope Protection
1. Site Assessment & Survey Determine slope angle, soil type, and risk factors.
Identify natural drainage patterns and weak zones.
2. Marking & Excavation

The slope is divided into horizontal steps (benches).
Each bench is cut into the slope at a controlled angle, reducing the steepness.

3. Compaction & Drainage Installation

Compaction of benches to prevent soil erosion.
Installation of drainage channels to redirect water flow.

4. Slope Protection Measures
Using geotextiles, stone pitching, or vegetation to stabilize soil.
Retaining walls or gabion walls can be added if necessary.
